STRAIGHT FROM THE PROS: Creating The Perfect Nude Lip For Women of Color

By now, you probably have gotten the memo; Nude lips are “in”! (Smiles) However, if you’re a women of color and confused about how to perfect the trend for yourself, look no more. Leading Make-up Artist, Sam Fine and and two of the best beauty resources for women of color have generously offered tips –just for you.

Sam Fine: With nude lips “the eyes must be strong. I achieve this look by applying black liner, brown shimmering shadows and at least two coats of mascara on both top and bottom lashes!”

AfroBella.com: The perfect nude should match your skin tone almost perfectly, covering over any slight discoloration your lips may have. A touch of shimmer or gloss amps up the look, but subtle beauty is the watchword. How can you tell that you’ve found your perfect nude? If you try it on the back of your hand, it should almost completely disappear, leaving only slight, pretty shine to let you know where it is. The perfect “nude” lippie for a brown skinned bella might be a warm rose pink, it might be bronze, it might even be a plum or berry, or a deep, fabulous brown.

Shefall at Suite 101: Take a tip from professional make-up artists and use concealer on the lips, or mix this in with a lip color for a true nude shade. Look for dry concealer pencils to outline the whole lip line blending it back in to the face. This is a very sculptural look which emphasizes the contours of a full pout rather than just painting on color.

Laugh SHINE Repeat recommended Nude Lip Gloss: GO BARE

GO BARE: A Tammie Holland Favorite

Tammie Holland, creator of Laugh SHINE Repeat Glossware loves laughing and loves wearing neutral colored lip shades, like GO BARE. “Of course I adore every color in my gloss ware collection, but I can do so much with GO BARE,” Holland says. “Sometimes I pair my GO BARE lip gloss with smokey eyes or hardly any shadow at all. It’s really a gem of a color."

GO BARE is a sheer, warm mid-tone nude colored lip gloss with soft SHINE and incredible staying power. Women who enjoy wearing nude lips overwhelmingly choose GO BARE over any other Laugh SHINE Repeat neutral color. It's one of the brand's top sellers.

Tammie Holland, who is also co-host of the “The Tony Scott Show” radio program on Clear Channel station KMJM-FM, likes to choose her lip gloss based on her mood – not just her attire. “I believe in the importance of surrounding myself with inspiration at all times,” she says with a chuckle. “My lip gloss inspires me. Sometimes a particular color or its name gives me energy for the day ahead.”

GO BARE was the color Holland chose to wear on the short video clip below. “Just like the color of the gloss, my on air delivery is slightly transparent and I always try to shine,” she says. “Jumping in and out of character or simply speaking my mind is much easier to do when I am being true to myself.” Holland pauses and says with a huge smile, “I think my radio listeners enjoy me most when I let go and GO BARE! So, I try to do it as often as possible!”

Eva 1920s Themed Party – GET THE LOOK!

Eva Longoria celebrated her birthday over the weekend in Los Angeles at a 1920s themed party in her honor. The Desperate Housewives actress celebrated in grand style with a host of Hollywood’s A-lister’s – all her best friends, of course! Kim Kardashian tweeted the photograph above with this message, “Celebrating the glamorous @EvaLongoria’s bday 1920′s style w @KhloeKardashian @LorenRidinger.”

GET THE LOOK:

During the 1920s, women used very dark and bold colors on their lips like ruby red, deep maroons and orange. Lips were made to look very plump and pouty by lining them with lip liner. To achieve this look, grab a liner and try a tube of Black Cherry or Fire Engine Glossware by Laugh SHINE Repeat! (Black Cherry, Fire Engine, $16, laughshinerepeat.com)

We’ve Got Your Lips Safely Covered!

According to Snapple Fact #53, (LOL) the average woman consumes six pounds of lipstick in her lifetime. Granted, an interesting item of trivia nonetheless, but definitely nothing any of us should discount.

Believe it or not, some beauty brands still use unsafe products like lead or Paraben’s in their products. You won’t find either of those harmful additives in Laugh SHINE Repeat Gloss ware. We’ve added Vitamin E to moisturize and protect your lips and a dab of natural, vanilla flavoring in our formula to make them taste good.

Of course, we’re not saying make a meal out of our lip gloss – that would be silly. We’re simply saying, we’ve got your lips safely covered! - xoxox

PAPER CRANES FOR JAPAN

According to Japanese legend, anyone who folds 1,000 origami cranes will be granted a wish. DoSomething.org aims to collect 100,000 photos of origami cranes from young people to represent 100 wishes for relief and healing to all who are affected by the massive earthquake and devastating resulting tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, 2011.

Why cranes? Cranes are sacred creatures in Japanese culture. According to ancient legend, anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish—like long life or recovery from illness—by a crane. Share your love and support for the Japanese people.
